Leipzig, November 3-5, 2025
AgML, the Machine Learning team of the Agricultural Model Intercomparison and Improvement Project (AgMIP) will have its second workshop in Leipzig, Germany, on November 3-5, 2025!
Why this workshop?
Since the start of AgML, we have published a perspective paper on the need for a transdisciplinary community to build better agricultural models using machine learning, as well as built two benchmark datasets to evaluate machine learning models for agricultural problems. We have also been discussing hybrid machine learning and process-based crop models, as well as good practices for machine learning yield models. We want the workshop to be a moment in which we can further these collaborations, but also bring fresh eyes into these problems and others, not yet addressed by our community.
What will we do?
We will have focused sessions on subnational yield forecasting, projections of crop productivity under climate change, hybrid crop modeling and good practices for yield modelling with machine learning. These will happen as hands-on activities, as well as in-depth discussions and lightning presentations to complement the programme. As the program is not yet finalized, we also welcome suggestions! We expect to share an agenda in early July.
By bringing together data, models and expertise across disciplines, workshop participants will collaborate on dataset improvement and model analysis with the goal of developing protocols to assess the skill of machine learning models for reproducible, intercomparable, generalizable and interpretable modelling of agricultural and food systems.
Interested?
The workshop will be hybrid, but some sessions may not be possible to attend online, although we will try our best! The workshop is also open, but registration is mandatory. Registration is free of charge and closes on July 31st for in-person attendance. Workshop participants are expected to arrange their own transport and cover their accommodation costs. We will share travel instructions to registered participants.
Limited partially- and fully- funded places will also be available, which will be allocated according to need, giving preference to participants from the Global South.
If you want to join, register, and don’t forget to join the AgML mailing list
